Ian McCracken is the Learning Resource Centre Manager at Govan High School in Glasgow. He has been involved in information literacy and learning since the late 1990s, when he started working jointly with colleagues in universities and other organisations. More recently, he has developed a staff induction programme that challenges ICT assumptions.

Staff Induction Programme includes:

• welcome booklet
• series of tasks that address relevant information issues
• develop a plan on a topic where they will be using the Internet with a class of S2 pupils choosing tow of six topics to plan the activity
• issuses focus on the steps that pupils need in order to be able to effectively find, retrieve and use information, regardless od curricular searchers
• issues arising from the searches
