Questions asked of Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning

At this years Scottish Learning Festival it was possible to email a question in advance to the Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning for the Q & A session after her keynote. Included in the questions asked on the day was a question by Ian McCracken LRC Manager at Govan High
She said that it was a "crucially important point" and went on to talk about leadership and the importance of involving all practicioners a whole school approaches and that the best schools she had visited have a whole school approach to teaching and learning - she went onto to give examples given where Castlemilk High School and St Margarets Academy. She also went on to speak about resources being supplied by the Scottish Government and Learning and Teaching Scotland but that the oportunities had to be created and that the "best resources are the people within schools themselves working together recognising opportunities". She finished off by saying that it's the right point to make but have to have the evidence and that there are people in schools who are not teachers that can provide that support.

much of the emphasis on Curriculum for Excellence has rightly been on the classroom teacher but for Curriculum for Excellence to work properly other category of staff such as child development officers, school librarians, outdoor education staff and many others need to be included in the process so what is the Cabinet Secretary doing to make certain that they are included in all aspects of Curriculum for Excellence and use their expertise to ensure its success?

The important skills of critical literacy / information literacy has been highlighted within the Curriculum for Excellence: Literacy across learning (finding and using information, understanding, analysing and evaluating) levels Early to Fourth. Does the minister agree that information literacy skills are essential in independent learning at all educational levels, career choice and long term management, employability training, workplace decision making and lifelong learning and what strategic initiatives does she think the Scottish Government can engage in to promote it.

She additionally went ahead to talk about assets being provided by the Scottish Government and Learning and Teaching Scotland yet that the oportunities must be made and that the "best assets are simply the general population inside schools cooperating perceiving openings".
She said that it was a "vitally Writing Essay critical point" and went ahead to discuss administration and the significance of including all practicioners an entire school approaches and that the best schools she had gone to have an entire school way to deal with educating and learning -
